Why Trying New Things Is Important

Stepping out of your comfort zone can be daunting. It's so easy to stay within the familiar and not venture out to new experiences. But what if I told you that trying new things can lead to growth and a happy life? As a mom and a Black woman, I'm no stranger to fear and uncertainty. I've learned that the key to overcoming these feelings is to do the hard things anyway. In this blog post, I'll share my insights on why trying new things is important and how you can embrace the unknown.

For starters, trying new things sparks creativity. When you're exposed to different experiences, people, and things, you open up your mind to new possibilities. This is why trying new things is essential for personal AND professional growth. I'm always looking for inspiration. Recently, I started writing in a journal every day to challenge myself to be more creative. It was scary at first, but eventually, I found that the more I wrote, the more I opened up my mind to new ideas.

Trying new things builds confidence! When you succeed in learning a new skill or mastering a new challenge, it can be a great boost to your self-esteem!! This sense of accomplishment can affect all areas of your life and help you tackle other fears and challenges. For instance, if you're trying to break into the influencer marketing world, reach out to brands you admire and ask to work with them! It might be scary to put yourself out there in this way, but if you land a gig, it can be a tremendous boost to your confidence. You got this!!

Trying new things is also an act of bravery. It takes courage to do things that you're unsure of or that may be out of your comfort zone. But just trying, regardless of the outcome, shows that you're willing to put yourself out there and not let fear hold you back. This can be challenging, especially when life is really hard. But I've learned that even just showing up on social media even when I'm feeling down is an act of resilience and strength!

Next, trying new things can lead to new friendships and connections. When you step outside of your usual routine, you can meet new people and build new relationships. Trying a new hobby can lead to meeting people who share your interests and passions. During the pandemic I got into gardening and was featured in WBEZ Chicago. I had no idea that my little hobby I was doing with my kids would unfold in that way, but I'm so happy I tried something new because it opened up new opportunities for me. Trying new things not only enriches your life but also opens up the door for more opportunities.

Lastly, it can be fun! It's exciting to embark on new adventures, explore new places, and conquer new challenges. It's so easy to tell yourself you can't do something before you even try. Letting go of any pressure to be good at something makes trying new things more enjoyable. Even if you don't succeed at first, just the act of trying can be rewarding. You may even discover new hobbies or passions that you never thought you'd like!

Trying new things may be scary, but it's important to embrace the unknown. When you try new things, you open the door to growth, learning, happiness, and fulfillment. You never know where it may lead you!
