How I am Preparing for School Vacation When I Work from Home

Moms, you know what I’m talking about. We’ve all been there - juggling work deadlines, parenting duties, and now add school vacation to the mix! The struggle is real, but don't worry, I’ve got you covered. As a work from home mom, I know how challenging it can be to find balance. In this post, I’m spilling all my secrets on how I’m preparing for school vacation while still keeping my business alive. So, grab your favorite drink, sit back, relax, and let’s get started!

The key to balancing work and school vacation is to plan ahead. Like, really far ahead. I have already created a calendar for my children’s school vacation and enter it in my planner. This has helped me schedule crucial business tasks such as deadlines, important meetings, and other commitments, around my kids' vacation schedule. By mapping out the important dates in advance, I'm able to work ahead and have a smooth transition when school lets out for the vacation.

Working from home means setting boundaries and expectations by communicating with your family or those you live with, that you will be working and will have limited availability during certain hours. It is not always easy, but it is necessary to set clear boundaries when it comes to personal and professional life. It's a give and take situation, and I try my best to respect my kids time while also trying to give them my undivided attention on their vacation.

As a mom, I understand the importance of quality time, and I don't want my kids to feel left out while I focus on work. That's why planning activities is another key step in keeping them entertained while you focus on business. I've made a list of simple activities they can do independently, and also a couple of outdoor activities that we can do together throughout their vacation time. By planning activities, I can maintain a work-life balance and still be able to enjoy quality time with my kids.

One of the benefits of working from home is the flexibility it offers. There will be moments when work will need your immediate attention and at other times, family will require it. On those days when calls are interrupted by the kids or urgent assignments come up, I try to be as flexible as possible, taking it all in stride. It’s important to be kind to yourself and remember that things are going to happen, but it's important to remain calm and collected. Also, remember that school vacation is temporary, it's all about BALANCE!

You don’t have to do everything on your own. As a mom, I know that it can get stressful trying to balance everything, so I make sure to have a support system in place. Whether it’s a sitter, family member, or trusted friend who is willing to lend a helping hand, having extra support can lighten the load. It’s essential to communicate and establish ground rules for taking care of your children to ensure everyone is on the same page. Working from home during school vacation is not easy, but with the right support, it becomes a little bit more manageable.

By implementing these simple tips, you'll be surprised at how smooth things will run, and how calm and in control you will feel! Also, remember, that school vacation is a special time for both you and your children, so make the most of it! Enjoy making memories, while still taking care of business, and you'll come out at the end of the vacation with a newfound respect for the meaning of “balance”.
